Visitor Policy Update During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Visitor Policy Update During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Our visitor policy has been updated based on guidance from the Oregon Health Authority. Effective December 2, 2021:

· One visitor per day is allowed in inpatient units, hospital-based outpatient areas or procedural areas during our visiting hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

· One visitor is allowed in the Emergency Department for duration of the visit. No restrictions on visiting hours.

· Visitors must be 12 years or older.

· Patients with disabilities have a right to support persons while they are in any Oregon hospital. The patient may choose at least three support persons to provide-assistance and help with the patient’s care. Only one support person will be allowed at the bedside. Exceptions will need to be approved by the nursing supervisor or nursing administration.

· A person in labor may have two support persons during labor and for 2 hours post-delivery, then only 1 support person will be allowed at the bedside. The two supports persons (only 1 allowed at bedside at a time) may switch out at bedside as needed.

COVID-19 Screening Required

All visitors and support persons must be screened for signs or symptoms of COVID-19, contact with known or suspected COVID-19 cases, recent travel, and have their temperature taken. Visitors must pass the screening to enter.

Face Covering Required

All visitors and support persons must wear a mask continuously at all MCMC facilities, including the hospital and all outpatient clinics.

Please avoid unnecessary touching of your face and use good respiratory etiquette: covering coughs and sneezes with the elbow and proper use and disposal of tissue.

Visitors unable to comply with the infection control guidelines above will be asked to depart.

Entering and Exiting the Building

Please check in at the nurse’s station and then go directly to the room you are visiting. Wash your hands upon entry and exit with soap and water for 20 seconds, or clean hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer. When done with your visit, please go straight to the exit to leave the building.

Support persons and visitors are not allowed in the common areas, such as waiting rooms, cafeteria, atrium, chapel and activity rooms. Support Persons do have access to a coffee cart and vending machines on the 1st floor or may order a guest tray meal for $5 which is delivered to the patient room you are visiting.

Support Persons and Visitors

A support person is a:

  • Caregiver or attendant of a patient who needs assistance due to a language barrier or the patient’s disability, whose presence will assist the person with the disability in receiving treatment, ensure the safety of the patient or facility staff, or who must assist with activities of daily living.
  • Close family member of a patient undergoing end-of-life care as determined by the medical provider in charge of the patient’s care.
  • Parent or guardian of a hospitalized child.
  • Person supporting a mother in L&D.
  • Person accompanying a SDS surgery patient, a person who needs teaching to provide care to the patient, or any person at the physician’s request.

A visitor is:

  • Any individual wanting to visit a patient who does not meet the criteria of a support person.

MCMC has taken precautions to protect our patients and visitors against COVID such as entry screening, vaccination, and increased cleaning procedures. While these steps help reduce risk, exposure is still possible when visiting.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep our patients, staff and community safe.
